In the future we may choose books from different genres to extend our reading horizons.
Finished the book a few weeks ago - A great writer, a great read. Really gave you an inside fresh perspective of life in the Marine Corp, how the marines developed quickly as soldiers and men. Incredible fortitude, bravery, singleminded dedication and comradeship. This book is definitely a slice of time, the language, settings, morals and lifestyle all belong in that era. What kind of experience is the Marine Corp now? I look forward to finding material on a present-day personal experience.
I'm almost done--the 2nd Marines of HQ Batallion are getting ready to charge through a Japanese line in the jungle of Coral island. There was a great description of the Marines listening to the island women signing the night before. I feel this is very true-to-life as Leon Uris had experienced this a few years before.
